Published: “Brita: On Fire”

Jan 1, 2020

I did it. I bit the bullet. And I mean I bit the bullet. It was a hard decision to make. Well, not a hard decision really. It was hard to push myself to get it done. But I finally did it. I published “Brita: On Fire.” I pushed past my fears and I did it. I made a few edits and a few more edits and a few more edits and finally did it. I let myself be okay with imperfection and I did it.

Ahhh!

I’m not sure if that is supposed to be a scream or a sigh of relief.

Both, probably.

I think the hardest thing about this has been letting myself have a finished piece of work and letting my vulnerabilities be displayed on paper. “What if I’m not good enough?” “What if no one likes my work?” “What if after all the heart and soul I poured into this I find out I’m a terrible writer?” I’ve thought it all. But that is okay. I did it! And I’m finally letting the world know.

So, here’s to Brita, an amazing young girl who has been through a lot in her life and who is my blood spilled onto digital paper.

“There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” ~ Ernest Hemingway

So, who is Brita really?

Bita is a young girl with a gift to create and control fire. In this book she reminisces about her past as she prepares for a surprise from Dr. Longstrom, her only friend in the institution where she grew up. Apprehensively, Brita follows Dr. Longstrom from the confines of her home to a lions’ den where she must prove her control over her abilities to those who hold the key to her future.

It’s a short read. And there may be more to come. Check it out.
